Description

This view of the Chicago River in downtown Chicago, Illinois, includes a view of the Kinzie Street Railroad Bridge. The image is a photograph that was was digitally enhanced using textures and other digital techniques to provide a painterly look to the scene.

The Kinzie Street Railroad Bridge was the world's longest and heaviest bascule bridge at the time of its opening in 1908. The bridge was last used for railroad traffic in 2000, and today is permanently locked in the raised position. It was designated a Chicago landmark in 2007.
