Description
Alone on a deserted beach on a cold winter's day, I was struck by the symbolism of this dead log against the backdrop of the smoke-belching giant across the bay. I used a telephoto lens to compress the apparent distance between the log and the power plant, and I processed the image in a monochrome palette as a way to enhance the mood. The rather bleak look of this scene suggests a possible time in the future when our human destruction has done its deed, and it may serve as a reminder, perhaps, of the need to take care of our planet. This photo was taken at Tobico Beach on Lake Huron's Saginaw Bay in East Central Michigan.
