Description
These pretty little blossoms are known by a variety of names, including swamp milkweed, rose milkweed, rose milkflower, swamp silkweed, white Indian hemp, and formally, as Asclepias incarnata.
Whatever they are called, they are very good for attracting Monarch butterflies. As a result, they are popular as garden plants, and they can also be found abundantly in the wild. The tiny blossoms grow in clusters and bloom from early to mid-summer. Colors typically range from pink to mauve to white.
I found these clusters growing wild along the edge of a small lake in a Michigan nature preserve, and I especially liked the way that they were illuminated by a late afternoon sun.
