These cute little characters are year-round residents of the Northern United States and Canada, and are plentiful around many nature centers in Michigan where this image was captured. They are generally curious and unafraid, and will readily eat birdseed out of the hand of a person holding it. The scientific name for the Black-capped Chickadee is Poecile atricapillus. For this photograph, I decided to use digital processing to create the look of a painting.

Welcome to my library of photos on FineArtAmerica and Pixels.com. After six years as a Chicago area transplant living in East Central Michigan, I returned in 2022 to to a new home in the far Northwest Chicago suburbs. I enjoyed my time in Michigan, where I had the opportunity to photograph local wildlife, especially the birds and waterfowl in State Parks and preserves that were near my home.
