Description
Black-tailed prairie dogs (Cynomys ludovicianus) are native to the Great Plains of North America. They range in size from 14 to 17 inches long and weigh between one to three pounds. These rodents nest in subterranean burrows, and are highly social animals that live in colonies ranging from five to thousands of individuals. I have applied a textured background to this photo, taken at the Detroit Zoo, for enhanced artistic effect.
