If you spill it, they will come... Someone had apparently spilled something sweet on a deck rail that had dribbled down the side, attracting a congregation of wasps, including these guys. I am not certain, but I believe these may be Western Yellowjackets (Vespula pensylvanica).

After six years as a Chicago area transplant living in East Central Michigan, I returned in 2022 to to a new home in the far Northwest Chicago suburbs.
