This widow skimmer dragonfly (Libellula luctuosa) was photographed using a telephoto lens, and the image was then cropped to macro size for this closeup view. The photo was taken at Big Bend Lake, part of the Cook County Forest Preserve, near Des Plaines, Illinois, during the summer of 2015.

Welcome to my library of photos on FineArtAmerica and Pixels.com. After six years as a Chicago area transplant living in East Central Michigan, I returned in 2022 to to a new home in the far Northwest Chicago suburbs. I enjoyed my time in Michigan, where I had the opportunity to photograph local wildlife, especially the birds and waterfowl in State Parks and preserves that were near my home. But I’m now also enjoying the opportunity to explore the environs near my new location. Indeed, I see beauty and interesting things to photograph almost everywhere that I go.
