Artist's Description
The Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) is the largest of the North American herons. With a head-to-tail length of up to 54 inches and a wing span up to 79 inches, these predatory wading birds are year-round residents throughout much of the United States. They can be found in wetland habitats, and feed on small fish, aquatic insects and other prey. I photographed this one at Kensington Metropark in southeast Michigan, and added a textured background for enhanced artistic effect.

Welcome to my library of photos on FineArtAmerica and Pixels.com. After six years as a Chicago area transplant living in East Central Michigan, I returned in 2022 to to a new home in the far Northwest Chicago suburbs. I enjoyed my time in Michigan, where I had the opportunity to photograph local wildlife, especially the birds and waterfowl in State Parks and preserves that were near my home. But I’m now also enjoying the opportunity to explore the environs near my new location. Indeed, I see beauty and interesting things to photograph almost everywhere that I go.
