Artist's Description
Native to the woodlands and grasslands of eastern Africa, giraffes are the tallest living terrestrial animals. With their extremely long legs and neck, mature males reach heights of 16 to 20 feet. This giraffe, still a juvenile, I believe, was photographed at the Detroit Zoo. I applied a texture and various digital processing techniques to the photo to achieve an enhanced artistic effect.

About Wes Iversen
Welcome to my library of photos on FineArtAmerica and Pixels.com. After six years as a Chicago area transplant living in East Central Michigan, I returned in 2022 to to a new home in the far Northwest Chicago suburbs. I enjoyed my time in Michigan, where I had the opportunity to photograph local wildlife, especially the birds and waterfowl in State Parks and preserves that were near my home. But I’m now also enjoying the opportunity to explore the environs near my new location. Indeed, I see beauty and interesting things to photograph almost everywhere that I go. You'll find evidence of that here in the variety of the images and photographic styles that I have chosen to present. The bulk of the images in this collection have been taken...

Earlier today I was saddened to see where a woman posted on social media a photograph of herself standing beside a giraffe she had shot and killed. This image reminded me of how majestic and beautiful they are. Thank you for sharing it Wes.
